A Perfect Wellington Day Trip
Located just a short drive from Wellington, Staglands Wildlife Reserve & Café is one of the fantastic things to do in Wellington with kids. It offers a welcome break from the city bustle, providing a chance to connect with nature.
The Reserve is open every day from 9.30am until 5pm and the Café from 10.00am until 4.30pm.
Nestled amidst the lush beauty of the Akatarawa Valley, this haven for animal lovers, particularly families with children, offers a unique opportunity to connect with native and exotic wildlife in a natural environment. Staglands Wildlife Reserve & Café provides a welcoming space with a diverse range of animals. Wander through the park and encounter a delightful mix of farmyard favourites and fascinating exotics. Children will be captivated by the playful antics of sheep, goats, pigs, and rabbits. Many of these animals roam freely within designated areas, allowing for a truly interactive experience. Feeding opportunities (food available for purchase) add another layer of fun for young animal enthusiasts.
Things To Do In Wellington With Kids?
Staglands is one of the best!
Let their imagination run wild at Staglands Wildlife Reserve.
Clamber aboard John’s old land rover Larry, Fergie the tractor and the static steam engine, The Flying Stag, for some make believe fun.
Have fun exploring all the exciting nooks and crannies of The Old Bush Settlement and have a ride on The Bush Railway.
Burn off some energy on the Kids Corner rope swing. The deep, slow-moving river is also perfect for a cooling summer dip. And in the cooler months we sell marshmallows for toasting on the cosy campfire down by The Barn – always popular with children – make sure they don’t miss out on this fun activity!
