Huka Prawn Park, a place where the whole family will be entertained for hours on end!

Take a guided tour through our nursery and hatchery and hand-feed baby prawns, venture through the activities park , play on the aqua trikes, pedal boats and stand up paddle boards, fire off water cannons, discover the interactive adventure trail and so much more!

Pack a picnic, togs and towel and spend the day exploring.

Start by joining our behind the scenes guided tour, hear about our 30-year history and connection to our neighbouring geothermal power station, be shown through our unique nursery and hatchery where thousand of pawns are breed annually, see our big breeding prawns up close and personal and while you’re there hand feed the baby prawns, an experience like no other. Don’t worry they don’t bite, just tickle.

This fun and interactive tour is great for all ages and included in your day pass or tour only passes are available. Tours leave from the foyer on the hour from 11am-2pm, allow 30 minutes.

From the minute you arrive at our entrance you will be amazed at such a place existing in the world. Imagine 6 hectares of riverside park grounds to explore, ponds to paddle on, interactive installations, adventure and fun around every corner and geothermal heated gems to warm you up and spots to relax .

You will hear the fun and laughter coming from our dedicated boat pond as families and friends race up and down the pond on stand-up paddleboards, water trikes, pedal boats and not to forget Swanderella and Duck Norris! The kids will want to go on them ALL, so be prepared for some pedalling power and wet feet!

The fun doesn’t stop at the boat pond. From here you can venture off on Shawn’s adventure walk where there are endless interactive experiences for the whole family to engage in. Throughout the park you will see true kiwi ingenuity with the perfect mix of sciences and fun set around our ponds and among native trees alongside the Waikato River! There are hidden gems, challenges, water activities and adventure around every corner so take your time to explore and make memories that will last forever! You’ll even find geothermally heated seats and footbaths along the way so take 5 to relax in nature.

Throughout the park you can find plenty of spots to sit back and enjoy a picnic or head along to our Riverside restaurant and enjoy a menu and location that is uniquely us!

Nestled on the banks of the Waikato River you’ll find the Huka Prawn Park Restaurant, Taupo’s only riverside restaurant. You can enjoy alfresco dining or find a spot inside beside the open fire all while enjoying views over the aqua marine waters of the mighty Waikato River.

Our menu is unique to us, serving giant freshwater Prawns exclusively available at Huka Prawn Park, whether you order them up by the kilogram tossed in garlic butter, warm up with a curry or enjoy them lightly battered with a crisp cider or local craft beer to match you’ll enjoy a feast like no other.
