SUMMARY:Methven Scarecrow Trail
DESCRIPTION:The Methven Scarecrow Trail is a hugely popular and fun family event run that has run for over 10 years. \nMembers of the Methven community build scarecrows to a particular theme and these scarecrows\, usually around 30+ in number\, are scattered around the town for families to find and try to identify the name of the character represented by the different characters. Families or small groups purchase a Trail Map/Entry form from the iHub Information Centre and there are sponsored prizes for the most correct entries and for the most popular scarecrows. The Trail Maps are only $10 for the group – cash only please. We recommend one map for 3-4 people but some families like to buy one each to increase their odds of winning a prize! \nThe trail is designed to be an activity that can be done easily by walking the route\, with a well timed stop for lunch\, within a day\, but some groups prefer to spread it over several days if they can. We love seeing groups of children of all ages\, often with parents and/or grandparents for added input\, out walking with their maps trying to guess the correct identities of the scarecrows. \nThe scarecrows are all located within the town boundaries for safe walking but some young children find the distances a bit long unless they use bikes or scooters. Some groups like to walk the route in the central village and then use the car to find the more remote scarecrows if the small children (or adults) are tired.

SUMMARY:The PumpHouse: The Great Piratical Rumbustification
DESCRIPTION:Hoist the Flag of Fun & Mayhem \nShiver me timbers! The pirates are restless\, yearning for a grand piratical adventure. “Oh\, for a pirate party!” they proclaim. But\, as any good pirate knows\, a proper pirate party must be a stolen one. So now\, get ready to set sail into the high seas of imagination as Margaret Mahy’s delightful tale\, The Great Piratical Rumbustification comes to life in a swashbuckling stage performance by Tim Bray Theatre Company. \nJoin our young hero\, Oliver Terrapin\, as he opens up the doors of his oblivious parents’ home for a party – a party with real pirates! Mayhem ensues in this rollicking\, rumbunctious rumpus of an escapade by Tim Bray Theatre Company that promises the most piratical fun you’ve had in years. Yo ho ho! \n“Perhaps (Tim) Bray’s most noteworthy quality as an adapter/director of children’s stories is his uncanny ability to find the essence of the works he adapts and to find ways to translate this to the stage. His work with Mahy’s quirky creations is no exception. It’s been my pleasure to see many of (Tim) Bray’s children’s theatre works but I have to say The Great Piratical Rumbustification is quite simply his best effort yet and it’s all down to harmony.” – Lexie Matheson\, Theatreview \n— For NZSL Interpreted\, Audio Described\, and Sensory Relaxed performance dates and accessibility resources\, head to timbray.org.nz/accessible-performances/ \nCostume Parade \nDress up in character! SUMMARY:Thaumatropes – Magical Moving Images
DESCRIPTION: School Holiday Craft Drop-in Sessions. 15 & 22 April.  \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCreate magic out of everyday objects with a thaumatrope! Bring your pictures to life and experience the early days of animation by creating your very own thaumatrope at one of the two drop-in sessions.   \nDraw your pictures\, cut them out\, twirl and twist your fingers\, and watch what happens…     \nAll materials are provided\, courtesy of the generous donation from our friends at Gordon Harris The Art and Graphic Store.  \nTamariki of all ages welcome accompanied by an adult.  \nDonations appreciated.   \nMonday 15 & 22 April | 10am – 2pm | Cable Car Museum  \nWhat is a thaumatrope?   \nA thaumatrope is an optical toy that was popular in the 19th century. It is a two-sided disk with strings attached at its sides. Each side of the disk has an image on it. When the strings are twirled between the fingers\, the two images appear to be one. A thaumatrope is considered an important forerunner in animation.
