SUMMARY:Whakatāne Kiwi Trust Night Walks 2024
DESCRIPTION:Don’t hibernate this winter! Wrap up warm\, grab a torch and explore the REAL Whakatāne Night Life scene with the Whakatāne Kiwi Trust! \nCome along and learn about our local kiwi population and the work being done by our amazing volunteers to protect our national icon and other native taonga. If you listen carefully you might even hear the call of kiwi or weka! Birds aren’t the only stars of the show though\, you’ll also discover various plant life\, nocturnal creepy-crawlies like spiders and wētā\, and incredible glow-in-the-dark fungi! \nPlease be aware that it is very unlikely that you will see a wild kiwi on this walk – they tend to run a mile when they hear a dozen humans coming down the track! \n2024 night walks dates \nOur night walks start on April 4th and run every Friday night until the 27th of June. They start at 7pm and finish at approximately 9.30pm. Kids Night Walks of Discovery are held on Thursdays\, with a 530pm start time and finishing at approximately 730pm. \nTickets are purchased through Eventfinda. \nWe are alternating the locations of our night walks each week between Ohope Scenic Reserve and Mokorua Bush Scenic Reserve so please ensure you know which location you are booking at. \nSee dates and book tickets for Mokorua Bush Scenic Reserve night walks » \nSee dates and book tickets for Ōhope Scenic Reserve night walks » \nSee dates and book tickets for Kids Night Walk of Discovery » \nPlease note that a reasonable level of physical fitness is required as we will be going off the public tracks and this may not be suitable for children under the age of 8. Whilst the Trust team will have first aid kits\, please bring any personal medication you may require (e.g. asthma inhalers). Finally\, don’t forget to wear warm clothing and footwear (e.g. NOT sandals or jandals) and bring a torch\, some snacks\, a drink and a camera! \nIf you have any questions please contact the Whakatāne Kiwi Trust: volunteer@whakatanekiwi.org.nz \nThanks\, we look forward to meeting you all – The Night Walks Team

SUMMARY:SENTINEL
DESCRIPTION:Aotearoa is the seabird capital of the world\, home to about 90 species of the world’s seabirds. Just as canaries once warned coal miners of carbon monoxide\, seabirds signal the declining health of our ecosystem. With the birds increasingly threatened by habitat loss and predators\, Sentinel serves as an urgent call to action. \nThrough science\, photography\, interactive video\, sculpture\, and sound\, Sentinel invites you into the world of these magnificent creatures. The collective of scientists and creatives Edin Whitehead\, André Bellvé\, Marcel Bellvé\, Micah Livesay\, Lani Purkis\, and Shane McLean urge us to protect Aotearoa New Zealand’s seabirds\, their environment\, and our shared ecosystem.

SUMMARY:RED\, WHITE AND BRASS
DESCRIPTION:It’s 2011 in Wellington and the seventh Rugby World Cup is just around the corner. Reprising his film role\, John-Paul Foliaki stars as Maka\, a Tongan superfan\, who will do whatever it takes to score tickets for the most important game of their lives – the Tonga versus France Rugby World Cup game. \nWhen Maka and his cousin Veni fail in getting tickets\, they decide to form a traditional Tongan marching band for the pre-match entertainment\, just so they can go to the game. The only problem is\, the band doesn’t exist and Maka has four weeks to put one together. \nWith the help of his fāmili\, his mates and local church members\, Maka rallies together a band of misfits who know nothing about marching\, nor do they have any instruments. \nWhat starts out as just a cynical scam to see a rugby game becomes a journey of self-discovery in which Maka and Veni will learn the importance of their Tongan culture\, their community\, and what really matters in life. \nInspired by an amazing ’straight-up’ true story and with bucketloads of Tongan māfana (warmth)\, Red\, White and Brass is a story of friendship\, family and fearlessly standing up for what you believe in. \nCo-produced by Piki Films and Miss Conception Films. \nA stage adaptation commissioned by Auckland Theatre Company of the film Red\, White and Brass. Film screenplay by Halaifonua Finau and Damon Fepulea’i\, and directed by Damon Fepulea’i.
