SUMMARY:'The Barbie Collector' Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Wellington Museum becomes like a ‘Barbie Dreamhouse’ with temporary exhibition The Barbie Collector featuring close to 500 Barbies and Kens owned by one of New Zealand’s biggest Barbie collectors\, Patsy Carlyle. \nThe Barbie Collector shines a short – but bright! – spotlight on the social history of Barbie\, noting how this iconic doll has changed across time. Everyone knows Barbie\, but now you can meet Patsy too. \nPatsy is a ‘proud westie’ who lives in a house in Helensville nicknamed ‘the pink palace’\, with over 1600 boxed Barbie dolls and 400+ freestanding dolls. She began collecting Barbie in the nineties and says\, “It started as a bit of a joke to be honest\, then it got a little out of hand.” She also notes\, “the house was pink when we bought it.” \nThe Barbie Collector is also a portrait of Patsy Carlyle. “People that you least expect collect\,” says Carlyle\, who worked as an ambulance officer for Hato Hone St John Ambulance for forty years before retiring. After seven years of volunteering\, in 1985 she became one of only six women then employed in Auckland as an ambulance officer. Patsy says\, “They say people who collect things live longer.” \nFor Patsy\, her collection has offered a fun alternative to the stress and seriousness of her job at Hato Hone St John Ambulance. “Half the fun is in finding the dolls.” She also loves the joy her collection brings to others. “I have so many stories to share!” \nStep into the world of Barbie and Patsy’s impressive collection at Wellington Museum. The exhibition also features a digital photo series of the dolls by award-winning artist Yvonne Todd. Design your own Barbie at the craft station and make your Barbie dreams come true by taking photos in the life-size Barbie and Ken boxes. \nPatsy collects Barbies\, \nWe collect Wellington. \nWhat do you collect? \nThe Barbie Collector – for a limited time only. \nFree entry | Wellington Museum | 22 July – 8 October

SUMMARY:The Grumpiest Child in the World - Kāpiti
DESCRIPTION:Natalie Briddling is a world-class grump (according to her mum). Wanting to stand out\, she’s hōhā with feeling average\, ordinary and middling so she sets out on “probably the most amazing adventure ever!”    \nHer magical journey takes her down an awa\, up a maunga\, meeting strange and wondrous beings along the way. Characters who in the beginning frustrate and anger her might turn out to be new friends.   \nProudly presented by Nōku te Ao Capital E’s National Theatre for Children\, The Grumpiest Child in the World is an endearing tale of self-discovery based on Finegan Kruckemeyer’s international award-winning play.   \nTe reo Māori is thoughtfully peppered through The Grumpiest Child in the World\, where the audience can enjoy learning new kupu with the performers. Delighting tamariki\, whānau\, and kaiako around the world since its debut in 2013\, this show encourages tamariki to embrace their feelings and emotions and celebrate ordinariness and extraordinariness.    \nThe 45-50-minute show can be enjoyed by any audience and is best suited for tamariki aged five to eleven years old.  \n  \n\n16/09/2023 1:00 PM\n26/09/2023 10:00 AM\n26/09/2023 1:00 PM\n27/09/2023 10:00 AM\n\n27/09/2023 1:00 PM\n\n\n28/09/2023 10:00 AM\n\n\n28/09/2023 1:00 PM
