The Skycity Breakers are the only team from outside of Australia to compete in the National Basketball League. In 2011 the Breakers won their first NBL championship title, becoming the first New Zealand first-grade team in any sport to win an Australian-based sporting championship. They then defended this title in 2012, 2013, and 2015, making them 4-time NBL Champions.
The club’s commitment to on court success is reflected in its active role in the community, with thousands of basketballs and coaching manuals distributed every year into local schools, and the Breakers Atlas Place home base being filled every day by the next generation of future Breakers.
Junior Breakers is our grassroots arm of the SkyCity NZ Breakers, where we provide skills sessions and holiday camps to develop the next generation of New Zealand basketballers.
Our membership packages give members pre-sale access to our varied programmes and camps, discounted prices on Saturday Skills sessions, free entry to Sunday’s open gym, and special offers for tickets to SkyCity NZ Breakers games. We offer are 3-Pointer ($45), Slam Dunk ($90), and Free Throw ($90) levels, which include the previously mentioned benefits and a selection of Junior Breakers merchandise.
The Saturday Skills sessions are held weekly during the school terms and run at different times based on your age. These classes are split into school year groups for Year 1-3 (8.30am-9.30am), Year 3-4 (9.40am-10.40am), Year 4-5 (10.50am-11.50am), Year 4-6 (12pm-1pm), and Year 6+ (1.10pm-2.10pm). Make sure you apply for your place in these classes ASAP as they sell out fast!
Our Junior Breakers leagues also run every day throughout the week. On Monday we offer a Fundamental league, on Tuesdays and Thursdays we run Year 5-6 leagues, and on Wednesdays and Fridays we run Year 3-4 leagues. Be sure to check with your school if you’re applicable and you could be playing right here in our NZ Breakers training facility!
